7/6/06
We don’t have to tell you what this game means. We gave the A’s a serious drubbing early in the season. They will be ready to settle the score come Sunday. Be prepared to be at the field by 9:00 a.m. I know they’ll be early, so there will probably be a fight for the batting cage.
We will be wearing black and grey for the game. Guys I know it gets a little uncomfortable with the black, but let’s put things in perspective. We’re not in some shit hole like Iraq where the temperature is a 100+ degrees and the sand fleas and the IED’S never quit. We can suck it up for 8 innings.
Also, nice job vs the Dodgers.
As far as I know everyone should be there on Sunday. If that is not the case, let us know.
Jason and Angel

Bruno --
I just wanted to add an another point in regard to Angel's comments about wearing the black uniforms on Sunday. Those us of who are of European descent are meletonin challanged, and are slightly more intollerant to the sun. My forefathers crossed the the chilly atlantic under the shade of billowing sales of great ships. Some of our teamates forefathers on the other hand (those telling us to toughen up), became much more accustomed to the sun while paddling their homeade rafts accross the North Atlantic from Cuba to the Florida coast while being baked alive by the powered equatoria heatwaves. So no wonder they deal with the heat a little better! It's in their genes!

Angel --
I think my ancestors were from Spain which technically makes me European. And they came to this country on pieces of plywood following the jet stream after there small fleet,or armada if you will, met with a bit of bad luck with the weather. But I digress. Fortunately with a little bit of Bull-Dog 75 sunscreen, it levels the playing field for you and I, comrade.

May 22, 2006
For this Saturday’s game vs the Tigers please be at the field by 6:30 a.m. for infield and batting practice……..only kidding. Let’s try to be at the field by 9:00. We will be wearing orange and white. The Tigers have been the surprise team of the over 30 league this year. And they are right behind us in the standings. Let’s put some distance between them and us. Tony Johnson is the only player who will be missing on Saturday. If you have an issue let us know now because Jason needs to get determine the defensive schemes.

Chris Helmers….If there is a ballplayer out there who has more guts than this man I’ve never met him. Chris has been hurt. That’s been part of the reason why he’s been out. We were going to be short Sunday so we asked Chris if there was some way he could compete. His response was…”I’ll be there.” No one really knows how much pain Chris is in, but if you watch him you will see the grimace come over his face when he trys to make a sudden move. And I can’t even imagine what it feels like when he swings the bat. So what does he do on Sunday? He gets two big hits…the second one drives in a run when we really needed it. The first one was just plain smoked. Like he’d been play’n all year. As if his body was 100%. One of the reasons that Oriole teams have been successful year in and year out has been the bottom of the order. Some how they give us a lift when we need it; They start rallies- get big hits. And as Chris said to no one imparticular yesterday, “there’s no bottom to this order.” And the guy who is always in the middle of the action is Chris Helmers. There are guys who make a living playing the game of baseball. I doubt that there are many who have the passion that Chris does.
Sunday, great job by Aurelio on laying down a bunt late in the game. That’s how you win the close ones. Mark Combs will need to be drug tested after that home run he hit yesterday. But as impressive as the home run was, I think the bunt that came after was a thing of beauty and just what we needed. John Getz had three big hits yesterday, including a huge home run. Jason Cooper also homered and would have hit for the cycle, that is if someone would have told him…And the homer and all his hits was done with a wooden bat…. Old school. Keith Beck after a slow start this season went 5 for 5 yesterday. And is 6 for his last 6. How about that. Steve Sullivan gave us two gutsy innings yesterday and worked out of a second inning jam which turned out to be huge.Everyone contributed…just a great win all around. Now as for Saturday we are playing the undefeated Rockies. They are going to be tuff, but we’ll be ready. They have a young pitcher who throws hard and has a good curve so we’ll have to make some adjustments and play a little more situational ball. Win or loseI’m just happy and honored to be playing ball with a great team, but more importantly a great bunch of guys. The only two players that I know will be out are Josh Taylor and Brian Perrone. If anyone else has an issue please let us know asap. The uniform will be orange and white. Be at the field by 12:00 for BP and infield. Have a good week and be ready for Saturday.

Jason and Angel

I could not agree more. Helmers is my hero! Don't forget about Angel throwing out the 2 fastest players on the Brewers late in the game.
-- Hanson

No doubt about it, Chris is THE MAN. Let's not forget that he flew back from vacation to play last year in the play-offs. Now for the serious business, Ledo is supposed to bring the beer this Saturday.

Now standing at 2-0 with an upcoming off week, the Orioles of 2006 are off to a solid start. It’s important that we stay in baseball shape between now and our next game so that means swinging the bat either in the cage or if some of you want to get together maybe we can workout at the Orchard park cage.
This past Sunday saw a dominant performance from our pitchers (especially Keith Beck) and a solid defense backing them up.
Special mention has to be given to:
Steve Hanson who now stands 7-7 at the plate. Steve, has driven in some big runs so far and his back has proven to be strong enough to carry us in the early going.
Mark Combs has done a solid job leading off for us and is making consistently hard contact at the plate.
Josh Taylor came to play Sunday and hit the ball hard all day, getting a big rbi in the process.
Steve Sullivan…you can’t have a chance to win the whole thing without guys like Steve Sullivan. He plays solid in the field and does it at various positions. He comes up with big hits and gets the big rbi when you need it most. Nice job Steve.
Our next game will be Sunday, April 23rd against the BREWERS...arguably the best team in the other division. Game time will be at 4:00 and you should plan on making it to the field by 3:00.

This Sunday we have a 10:00 a.m. meeting with the Tribe. This past Saturday we had a hard fought victory vs a very good Black Sox team. Great team effort in the win, but special mention has to be given to:

Steve Hanson- went 4-4 and just scortched the ball.

John Getz- Big 3 run homer late in the game that proved to be the difference.

Again, this was a great team win with everyone contributing….just a beautiful way to start the season.
